We remodeled the kitchen, back entry, and dining room bar of this 1928 home while preserving its traditional style. One of the biggest challenges with this project was working with the home’s solid masonry exterior walls. With the solid masonry exterior, we had to create channels in the walls for new electrical and plumbing to accommodate the new layout. The space also includes new electrical/lighting, plumbing, trim, paint, and windows (the existing side door into the kitchen was removed to make way for a new window above a custom stained-cabinet piece next to the fridge). The kitchen features custom cabinetry with Shadow Storm marble countertops and backsplash, including a pantry, a new Sub-Zero refrigerator (with cabinetry paneling), a new dishwasher (with cabinetry paneling), and a new Wolf range. The kitchen also includes all unlacquered brass hardware, a Kohler farmhouse sink, a Perrin & Rowe bridge faucet and pot filler, and a custom stainless steel hood with mirrored stainless steel and brass strapping accents by Heirloom Companies. The original hardwood floors were refinished with a custom stain and hand-painted pattern that nods to the original hardwood flooring style, preserving some of the home’s history. The back entry was also remodeled with lighting/electrical, paint, wallpaper, and new custom cabinetry with in-cabinet lighting. The existing cabinetry in the entryway was refinished and updated with paint and unlacquered brass hardware and hinges to match the new cabinetry. In the dining room, we made room for two complementary arched cabinetry pieces, including the bar with in-cabinet lighting and Shadow Storm countertops with a custom antiqued mirror backsplash. The bar also features a wine cooler along with a hammered bar sink and faucet.
